Google Added To Go2Net’s MetaCrawler and Dogpile Metasearch Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – January 13, 2000 – Google, one of the fastest growing search destination sites on the World Wide Web, today announced that its Google search engine has been added to Go2Net’s (NASDAQ: GNET) MetaCrawler (www.metacrawler.com) and Dogpile (www.dogpile.com), the Internet’s two most popular metasearch services.

MetaCrawler was developed in 1995 at the University of Washington and in 1997 became part of the Go2Net Network. Go2Net acquired Dogpile in August 1999. Both MetaCrawler and Dogpile simultaneously query the databases of various leading web-based search sources to provide search results. MetaCrawler was relaunched today, adding Google’s search capabilities while providing a new user interface and extending its metasearch capabilities to the categories of music, auctions, and international.

Google, recipient of PC Magazine’s 1999 Technical Excellence award in web applications, focuses exclusively on delivering highly relevant search results. Through innovative advances in search technology, Google helps its users find information on the web with unprecedented levels of ease, speed, and accuracy. Google currently provides its search services at www.google.com, and through a variety of customers that license Google for web and site search functionality on their sites.

"Google is a recognized leader in providing high-quality search results and represents a significant addition to MetaCrawler and Dogpile," said Oren Etzioni, Go2Net Chief Technology Officer. "As both services continue to grow, Google’s search capabilities will be beneficial to our users."

"Our agreement with Go2Net expands Google’s presence on the web as the primary provider of highly relevant search results," said Larry Page, Google CEO and co-founder. "Our collaboration, built on the strengths of both Google and Go2Net, brings the benefits of Google to the millions of MetaCrawler and Dogpile users."

Google, which was named to Time magazine’s The Best Cybertech of 1999 list, recently announced that it ranked first overall for user satisfaction and loyalty in a national online survey among 13 search and portal sites. According to NPD Online Research, Google led all sites in the quarterly competitive survey with 97 percent of its users identifying Google as much or somewhat better than other sites; 95 percent of its users finding what they are searching for all or most of the time; and eight in 10 users choosing Google because it delivers the best search results. Among the 13 search and portal sites in the survey, Google placed first in six of nine loyalty and satisfaction categories. Google’s remarkably strong debut performance in the industrywide survey positions it as one of the highest regarded destinations on the Internet today.
